MixPix!

Oh no! Some of the world's greatest artworks have been cut into sixteen pieces and scattered in a random pattern on your computer screen! Can you reassemble these masterworks before these cultural treasures disappear from view forever?

Okay, that was perhaps a little hyperbolic. But this is a really cool shuffle - the - pieces - of - the - picture - back - into - the - correct - order puzzle.

Instructions

Please read carefully

To start, click Start.

To change the picture, click Change Picture.

To move the pieces around, click a piece next to the empty space and it moves into the empty space. Keep moving pieces around until the picture is reassembled with the pieces in the correct order. Or, if you like, you can just keep moving the pieces around in a circle, round and round, round and round, round and round....

More Thoughts...

I also notice that sometimes a piece of the picture seems to fit in a place it shouldn't. Sometimes I look at a piece in the correct position, and it looks wrong. Why is that? Maybe I'm just not very good at this game... then again, it may have something to do with the artist's skill at composition, where pieces can be interchangeable in one sense, but looked at another way, they have a very specific area where they will look the best.

Thoughts, not instructions

You know what I think is cool about this? When I try to put the pieces back in order, I have to look at how each section of the painting fits together. I see things in the parts of the picture that I overlook when it's whole. What will you discover in the painting when you take it apart and put it back together again?
