datasheet Oracle Collaboration Suite/Oracle Files

Oracle files is a robust content management application with superior collaboration features. Built on Oracle's database technology, Oracle Files stores your documents in a single, consolidated, Oracle database, which saves you money and increases productivity, while protecting your valuable data. Oracle Files ships with Oracle's Collaboration Suite.

Save Money and Increase Productivity

With the explosion of file servers within an organization, companies are struggling to reduce costs and find their business critical documents.

Oracle Files solves this problem by storing your documents in a single, consolidated, Oracle database, which saves you money with only one server to maintain, and fewer people to maintain it. Furthermore, with all of your data off of your client machine, it becomes unnecessary to spend money upgrading desktop machines to support the growing data. Users can now access their files 24 hours a day, from any computer, worldwide, with an Internet connection.

Oracle Files increases your productivity because users can easily collaborate with their co-workers globally, and can find files faster with a single search. Each user can create shared workspaces in which to store their files, and can grant access privileges to other members of each workspace. Users can also collaborate in a structured way by associating workflow processes with their documents. Oracle Files is integrated with the Oracle Workflow engine to facilitate routing and approval of documents. While a file is being processed through a workflow, the file is automatically locked to prevent anyone from making changes.

Oracle Files is designed to run “out of the box,” something you can install today and start using immediately. The intuitive Web interface and the support for all the familiar desktop protocols (SMB, AFP, NFS, FTP or WebDAV) means your employees benefit from the system quickly without any additional training.

With the reliability and security of the Oracle database, you can be confident that your files will be available when you need them, and that no unauthorized people have viewed or damaged your files. As your needs grow, Oracle Files can grow with you, obviating the need for costly system conversions.

Manage the other 99% of your data with Oracle Files—your consolidated file server.

What's New in Oracle Files

With the Collaboration Suite release of Oracle Files, we will be introducing several new features:

  • Web UI - Our new intuitive Web UI makes it easier then ever to navigate to your files and manage your workspaces.
  • Categories - Categories provide a facility for users to add groups of attributes to files and folders in the Oracle Files Application. The Categories feature also enables users to search on these additional attributes. Categories are not associated with any specific type of file. You can apply the same category to graphics, word processing, presentation, spreadsheet, or any other types of documents stored on a file server.
  • Trash Folder (Single File Restore) - Oracle Files supports a two-phase delete model. When a file is deleted, it goes into a Trash folder. The file is not removed from Oracle Files until the Trash folder is emptied. Even then, Oracle Files introduces Single File Restore capabilities, allowing a Subscriber Administrator to reclaim a valuable file that was inadvertently thrown away.
  • Workspaces - Oracle Files introduces the concept of Workspaces. Workspaces are folders that are accessible by a defined set of users who are assigned one of three sets of privileges: Administrator, Participant, or Viewer.
  • Print Services - To replace NT servers, print services provide a method of managing print jobs through Oracle Files. The print server doesn't require extra client software to be installed.
  • Multi-Subscriber Administration - The Multi-Subscriber feature allows for centralized administration of multiple Oracle Files subscribers. Each subscriber's user list and content is completely secure and separate from the other. Through a shared schema, subscribers can easily be added, modified, and deleted as is necessary by one Site Administrator.
